Scotty SP-101 Oar collars, Scotty SP-102 oarlocks
With open horn locks the lock is first put into the socket on the boat and the oar dropped into the lock below the collar and the collar slipped into the lock. The oar is prevented from jumping out by the larger diameter of the collar.
Disadvantage: The lock must be tied to the boat to prevent loss.
Advantage: Allows you to remove and replace the oar with one hand especially when maneuvering around dock or shore. Best for regular use
Circle oar locks are installed on the oar prior to fixing the collar and remain there, free to move between the oar blade and the upper end of the collar, aka stop or button. To use the oar you must put the shank of the oar lock in the socket on the boat.
Disadvantage: this requires both hands.
advantage: The locks are always on the oars. Best for occasional use such as auxillary to engine power.
